Wyatt had been absent from WWE since the lead up to WrestleMania 39. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select had reported just a few weeks ago that Wyatt had been battling a life-threatening illness but was close to a return to the ring. Sapp also broke the news of the cause of Wyatt’s death, saying that his family okayed it for him to reveal that Wyatt had gotten sick with COVID, which resulted in a heart issue and led to a heart attack. TMZ obtained official law enforcement records which indeed did confirm that Wyatt contracted COVID back in March. This led to heart complications and a “weak lower part of his heart.” Just two weeks ago, Wyatt was actually in the hospital for his heart issue.

For a year, we clamored for his return. Every time a WWE angle hinted at a return we prayed for it to be Bray Wyatt. Finally, at Extreme Rules last year, he made his return in one of the greatest comebacks ever. The crowd went wild, but then his push went mild. Wyatt had evolved yet again, portraying a babyface bordering on a normal person trying to keep his anger under control.

The last great thing Wyatt will be remembered for is how he pushed LA Knight. Bray Wyatt could control any segment he was in, but he would take moments to stand back and let Knight shine, even to his own detriment. That feud made LA Knight the star he is now. It’s unfortunate that Wyatt’s last big match, their bizarre Royal Rumble match, was so bad. It only fed into the criticism that Wyatt was a great talker and fascinating mind, but that his matches were boring. That’s not entirely on him. His matches could be overbooked, relying too much on theatrics, but he’d proven time and time again he could go in the ring with the best of all time.
