I was born very prematurely on January 30, 1979, a fight and struggle to survive, and only weighing a delicate 1 pound and 15 ounces. Was born blind in both eyes, and through the grace of God, the doctors were able to help save and recover sight in one of my eyes. Growing up, was a little challenging, but I never let it stop me. I wore glasses and had thick curly hair. Although I questioned for most of my younger years, why out of my mother’s three children did this have to happen to me, I never allowed it to stop me. I continually pushed forward.

Aside from my struggles at birth, there have been many obstacles and family situations that I have had to overcome. I have chosen to use those obstacles and family situations as my stepping stones to motivate and elevate me to my next level and propel me forward. It helped me determine that I did not want to play “victim” for the rest of my life. I wanted to show others, especially my younger family members that no matter what obstacles you are thrown, or forced to endure as a child, you can still overcome and make it to greater heights.

With this belief, I decided to go over and beyond anyone’s expectations. I highly value education, so much that not only was I the first out of all my siblings to receive my Bachelor’s in Social Work, but I preserved and received my Master’s in Social Work. My college education took me many more years to complete than it would typically take a traditional student. Nothing about my life has been traditional. While my journey was riddled with discouragement and uncertainty, I NEVER GAVE UP. Quitting was never an option and forward is the only direction I know. First and foremost, I am a child of God and acknowledge that I am ALIVE today because of HIS glory and HIS grace. I am a passionate, loving, and motivated woman, who puts 100 percent of me, in all I do, and with all I encounter. I always view the bigger picture and try my hardest to contribute to it in a positive way.
